A little bit about us...

WE LOVE WORKING TOGETHER, REALLY WE DO!

Dimitri raised Athena in his glass-shop, even carrying her with him when he built it over 20 years ago. Since then, she has watched him as he created award winning pieces, taught at art schools all around the world, and absorbed as much as she could.

Today, they are inseparable friends, working in the glass-shop they built together, trying to do something they both believe in; bring beautiful, handmade, and family created design into every home.

Naturally he chose to pursue the arts for his education. He studied at Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and Washington University in St.Louis. When he was back visiting his family in St. Louis, he would often sneak onto the Washington University campus to use their arts facility after hours, not knowing that in a few years he would be back again, but this time as a teacher.

Athena Michaelides, Athenian Glass
ATHENA MICHAELIDES

Athena grew up on Whidbey, raising goats and working in her mother Elaine’s garden. Her earliest memories are of days in the glass shop with her parents working, and nights  spent falling asleep to the sound of packing glass and the talk of the shop.

From an early age Athena was attracted to colors and textures. She turned every school project into an artistic endeavor, and all of her free time was spent with her goats and designing, whether it was paper mosaics or her own clothes.

She received a Youth Rotary Exchange Scholarship and studied in Pamplona, Spain. She spent much of that year traveling around Spain, Portugal, France, and Greece with new friends. During this time, she was struck in her travels by the historical integration of the arts into both public and private places.

After school Athena chose to study at a Theater conservatory, Circle In The Square in New York City. Today she lives between Whidbey Island and New York City, thankful she gets to fully experience both the fast-paced city and her secluded family home, and that she gets to work with one of the people she most admires, her father.
